Sermon Title: The Pale Blue Dot

(Luke 9:28-43)

Rev. Erik Kindem, February 14, 2010

Quick Summary:

This weekend marks the 20th anniversary of a photograph taken by the Voyager 1 spacecraft of Earth from 4 billion miles away. In it, our planet is only a tiny speck of light surrounded by immense darkness.

When Jesus took his companions up the mountain of Transfiguration to pray, they became party to a vision of Jesus bathed in a light-beam of his own, and they find themselves speechless.

How do you talk about things for which there are no words?
How do you talk about a divine Love so immense and so committed that It said: I’M GOING TO MAKE MYSELF SMALL ENOUGH TO LIVE ON THAT PALE BLUE DOT?
