Sermon Title: Wading in the Water

(Matthew 25:31-46)

Rev. Erik Kindem, November 23, 2014

Quick Summary:

A sermon on the occasion of an adult baptism.

It all starts here, as we wade in these waters: Christ’s claiming of us, and our journey with him...

Sing it with me…
Wade in the water, wade in the water children,
Wade in the water, God’s going to trouble the water.

In baptism we discover our passion, purpose and vocation.

And looking at vocation through the lens of today’s gospel, we see that, at its core, vocation has to do with loving God by caring for the neighbor.
‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’
And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’

But the reality is: the world doesn’t want us to go there.
