Sermon Title: Deeper Healing Required

(Mark 1:21-28)

Rev. Erik Kindem, January 29, 2012

Quick Summary:

More than any gospel writer, Mark shows us Jesus’ power to heal and to exorcise. Of the eighteen miracles recorded in Mark, thirteen have to do with healing and four of the thirteen are exorcisms where evil is sent packing, and the fractured, pieces of broken lives are made whole.

The voices and powers of this world, of every dimension, want a piece of us. And sometimes, as in this man in the synagogue, they succeed for a while. When powers such as these dominate, there is only one end: tragedy and death.

But above the roar of these deafening demon voices another Voice breaks through, commanding them all to silence, and calling us to his side. It is the Voice of Jesus. His is a voice of true liberation. One that frees us from what would hold us captive so we can begin living and loving and serving again.
