Sermon Title: Prayer with Legs

(Mark 2:1-12)

Rev. Erik Kindem, February 19, 2012

Quick Summary:

Among the Tribal communities of Northwestern California, the Brush Dance is a healing Dance that gathers the community around the needs of a sick child. You might call this ceremony "prayer with legs." In the story from Mark, the friends of a paralyzed man bear him through obstacles and into the presence of Jesus. This, too, is prayer with legs. Recognizing the faith of these friends, Jesus offers forgiveness and healing.

Today, in a liturgy of healing, through the gift of laying on of hands and anointing, we offer prayer with legs--and with hearts, hands, and voices--giving thanks for the healing power of Christ which continues for this broken world.
