Sermon Title: Dealing with Fear

(Mark 9:30-37)

Rev. Erik Kindem, September 23, 2018

Quick Summary:

Fear comes in many different packages…
There’s the fear you feel when your life is under threat. And the fear you feel when someone you depended on is gone. There’s the fear that comes when you’ve lost control of your life. And the fear you feel when you’ve messed up big-time and await the consequences. Fear can paralyze us, make us to flee, shut us down, cause us to make bad decisions. Being caught in the grip of fear is a horrible place to be.

When Jesus tells his inner circle, “The Son of Man will be betrayed and killed, and after three days will rise again,” it makes no sense to them. Mark comments: THEY DIDN’T UNDERSTAND WHAT JESUS WAS SAYING AND WERE AFRAID TO ASK.

Jesus meets us in our fear and promises to stick with us, come hell or highwater.
