Sermon Title: Seeing the Neighbor

(Luke 10:25-37)

Rev. Erik Kindem, July 14, 2019

Quick Summary:

Of all the stories Jesus told, this one may be the most well known, and the point seems crystal clear: Even your enemy—the one you can’t stand—is your neighbor; and this is what loving him looks like. But we tend to make things complicated. And we find ourselves needing to return to the same fundamental question over and over again. Like the lawyer who came to Jesus, do we seek clarity about who we are required to love so that we can be clear about who we are not required to love?

This sermon reflects on the immigrant children being held under inhumane conditions in detention facilities such as Flint, Texas. It invites us into lament for them, and into action on their behalf.
