Sermon Title: The Rich Man and Lazarus~A Dialog in Three Parts

(Luke 16:19-31)

Rev. Erik Kindem, September 26, 2010

Quick Summary:

This sermon dialog explores how well we middle class North Americans fit in the shoes of the rich man of Jesus' parable. How many of the assumptions that framed his life are part of ours as well? What do we claim as our birthright? Living the American Dream? Having access to cheap food and inexpensive clothes? Living comfortably in retirement? What "invisible" neighbors do we pass by on the way to the grocery store or as we pull out of the Costco parking lot? And what are our working assumptions in this relationship with the God we boldly call “ours”?

Perhaps, as Christians, our entitlements are those of Jesus, our brother. Entitlement to serve. To notice Lazarus in our midst. To learn his name. To hear his story.
